ABBAcadabra was formed in 2002 by Glenn (Bjorn) and Jean (Anni Frid). Both Glenn and Jean have been performing all over the Costa’s with their duo PROTOCOL and have become very successful in the process. Both are elite performers in their own right
In 1987, Jean had chart success with a group called The Firm, when their debut single Star Trekkin went to No1 in the UK charts. The single went on to top the charts in several countries around Europe as well as Australia and is still a cult song for “Trekkies” today.
Glenn joined the band Kenny in the early 1980’s. Kenny had major chart success with hits including Fancy Pants and The Bump plus many more and toured all over the UK and Europe, introducing a dance called The Bump which accompanied the single. In 1990, Glenn left Kenny to join Brian Connolly’s Sweet as lead guitarist/vocalist. The Sweet were an extremely successful glam rock band throughout the 70’s having over 20 singles in the UK top 20 charts, Europe and America. Their song Ballroom Blitz was used in the films Wayne’s World and Daddy Day Care. Wig Wam Bam was covered by Black lace as a party song and charted a second time. Action was covered by the very successful rock band Def leppard and entered the top ten in both the UK and the US. Blockbuster topped the UK charts in 1973 as well as reaching No1 throughout Europe. It is just as popular today, still being used in many TV commercials. The Sweet still remains one of the few British bands of that era to have major success in the United States. Glenn toured very successfully with BC Sweet for 10 years, playing all over the UK, Europe and the Far East and still attracted crowds in their thousands. When lead vocalist Brian Connolly died in 1997, BC Sweet carried on touring in his memory. Due to his experience and uncanny resemblance to the late Brian Connolly, Glenn took over as lead vocalist until he finally left BC Sweet in 2000.
Jean and Glenn teamed up in 2000 and formed their duo PROTOCOL. After successfully working together as PROTOCOL for P&O Cruises, Butlins theme weekends and Haven holidays, they moved to Spain in 2002. Shortly after they met up with Ashley (Benny) and Jolanda (Agnetha) and formed their ABBA tribute band ABBAcadabra Both Jolanda and Ashley bore a striking resemblance to the original Agnetha and Benny from ABBA and Ashley’s ability to play piano, keyboards and read music made him the perfect candidate to join the band. After months of rehearsals, choreography and hard work, ABBAcadabra were finally ready to hit Spain. As months went into years ABBAcadabra went from strength to strength, becoming one of the most successful tribute acts in Spain.
In 2007, Jolanda and ABBAcadabra parted company and the search was on to find an equally suitable replacement.
Lorraine, originally from Birmingham, was the ideal replacement. She had worked as a top model for some of the biggest agencies in the UK and had been regularly seen on the front covers of magazines, advertising everything from makeup to washing powder. Lorraine was not a novice in the world of entertainment. She had been a finalist in an elite talent competition, Search for a Star, held at the Benidorm Palace in 2006 performing in front of hundreds of people. Her high vocal range suited the band perfectly. She was also an excellent dancer and had the natural Scandinavian beauty associated with Agnetha from ABBA, so the perfect replacement had been found.
ABBAcadabra are still the most successful ABBA tribute band in Spain. Even after 5 years, they still work hard to ensure every part of their act is first class. Never an act to become complacent, they still rehearse regularly, always looking for fresh ideas to improve their show and to ensure they remain the best ABBA tribute act on the Costa’s.
Fully self contained, ABBAcadabra have already successfully toured the length and breadth of Spain from Javea to Malaga. Their audiences are always guaranteed to receive a professional evening’s entertainment, worthy of emulating the 70’s icons.
ABBAcadabra are all experienced singers, musicians and dancers. There are no karaoke singers in ABBAcadabra
Jean and Glenn both worked professionally as musicians and vocalists for many years in the UK. Glenn taught himself to play guitar at the age of 8 and has played with named acts all over the world. Ashley is a self taught pianist/keyboard player and Lorraine is an accomplished high range vocalist and dancer. Backing tracks are used in an ABBAcadabra show, but vocals, keyboards and guitar are live.
Image is as important as sound. ABBAcadabra insist on looking the part as well as sounding the part. Therefore, you will only ever see ABBA costume at a ABBAcadabra show.
You will never see any member of ABBAcadabra performing ABBA songs in conventional clothing anywhere.
If you book an ABBAcadabra show, you will receive a first class act of the highest calibre because they pride themselves on professionalism every time.
